Izetbegović: Tuzla Canton's legislative and executive powers work well together

FENA Press release

TUZLA, April 21 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, Bakir Izetbegović, together with the Federation of BiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić and his associates, visited the Tuzla Canton today.

They spoke with representatives of the canton about the consequences of the coronavirus pandemics and the challenges this crisis has brought.

Representatives of the Government of the Tuzla Canton outlined the activities undertaken in that canton to combat the pandemic, especially in economic terms.

"I am pleased that the legislative and executive authorities in the Tuzla Canton have excellent cooperation," Izetbegović said.

Prime Minister Novalić emphasized that the meeting provided insight into the current epidemiological situation, as well as all measures taken to mitigate the consequences of the pandemic.

"We have seen that they are very aware of the situation, they have measures that do not overlap with those of the FBiH Government, which is extremely good," said Novalić, expressing hope that the crisis would be overcome as soon as possible.

He praised the work of the Tuzla Canton in the healthcare segment, highlighting the importance of the cantonal health ministry.

"The extent of their engagement is seen in the fact that there were no new cases of coronavirus infection since March 12. In the future, we will increasingly deal with the economy, and in that sense, it is obvious that the Tuzla Canton has capable people, and we are at their full disposal," added Novalić.

The Tuzla Canton Prime Minister Denijal Tulumović said today that the cantonal government has prioritized the fight against the economic crisis while respecting all of the epidemiological measures.

"We coordinate all our measures with the FBiH Government in order not to overlap and to ensure that certain categories of crafts and businesses would not be deprived of financial resources," emphasized Tulumović.

On the other hand, a proposal for a revised FBiH budget is currently expected, as well as the adoption of the so-called coronavirus law.

Apart from these topics, they also discussed a loan arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) worth 330 KM million and the fact that the decision on withdrawing these funds was not adopted at today's session of the BiH Council of Ministers. Izetbegović said that the reason was that the proposed decision was not harmonized with the document signed with the IMF.

"Minister of Finance and Treasury of BiH, Vjekoslav Bevanda simply needs to harmonize that decision and everything will get done. This should be done as soon as possible," Izetbegović said.

Prime Minister Novalić pointed out that these were technical details that were not specified in the right manner, i.e., who would be paying back the loan specifically at different levels and that the communication in the coming days between the IMF and the Council of Ministers of BiH in the coming period would certainly resolve this.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the distribution of the VAT revenues and the roads construction.
