SARAJEVO, May 4 (FENA) – BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović said today, after the first meeting of working group that would be tasked with moving processes of the BiH's path to the European Union, that all participants in the meeting are aware that BiH should initiate reforms on its European path as soon as possible and that it is necessary to work on consensus-based reforms.

He stressed that there are several issues that should not be disputed and that should be addressed in the coming days and weeks such as the issue of conflict of interest law, public procurement law, the implementation of OSCE recommendations to improve the electoral process, and the establishment of parliamentary stabilization committee, but also public administration reforms.

“All participants of the meeting made it clear that it is necessary for this to happen in BiH as soon as possible. We want to finally move forward from a deadlock point on our European path,” Džaferović underscored, adding that all meeting participants are very interested in BiH getting candidate status.

He recalled that the BiH Presidency adopted a conclusion tasking the Council of Ministers, in cooperation with the Collegium for European Integration and the Directorate for European Integration, to raise the issue of drafting a new Membership Action Plan and the implementation of 14 recommendations from the European Commission's Opinion.

This group consists of Chairman and members of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović, Željko Komšić and Milorad Dodik, Chairman and two Deputy Chairs of the Council of Ministers of BiH Zoran Tegeltija, Bisera Turković and Vjekoslav Bevanda, Chair and Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Nebojša Radmanović, Denis Zvizdić and Borjana Krišto, Chair and Deputy Chair of the House of Peoples of BiH PA, Dragan Čović, Bakir Izetbegović and Nikola Špirić.

However, political representatives from the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) in BiH institutions did not attend today’s first meeting, and party leader Dragan Čović wrote to Džaferović and explained the reasons for his absence.

Džaferović called on HDZ BiH and their representatives in BiH institutions (Dragan Čović, Borjana Krišto and Vjekoslav Bevanda) to participate in what is their right and a constitutional and legal obligation.

“If they want to say that they respect the Constitution of BiH and the laws of BiH then they must respect the invitation coming from the BiH Presidency to the institution of BiH and them as BiH officials. If they say they are on the European path, I would remind them that everything we have been doing in recent days is in agreement with the EU and the Quint countries. If they are committed to the European path, they should help us go that route,” Džaferović explained.

He said that the reasons stated in the letter do not deserve any comments, therefore he invited the HDZ BiH to participate in this process and that Čović should prove that he was an advocate of the European path, and that he would demonstrate this by participating in the functioning of BiH institutions.

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in agreement with representatives from the European Union, agreed to form a political working group with the aim of initiating reform processes in BiH and realizing 14 priorities from the European Commission's Opinion.
