ZAGREB, May 6 (FENA) - The European Union is ready to support the reform and European efforts of neighboring countries, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Wednesday ahead of the start of the EU's virtual summit of the EU and the Western Balkans.
The Prime Minister of Croatia said the EU is ready to support the efforts of the Western Balkan countries, Hina reported.
"Not only in the context of negotiations that are already under way with Serbia and Montenegro, nor in the context of the very important decision of the European Council to open accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, but also as a message going to Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially important country for Croatia, "Plenković noted.
He added that Croatia wants to help Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path and support talks between Serbia and Kosovo, and that the green light for Skopje and Tirana is the result of "diplomatic and political engagement of Croatia and its friends and partners".
Plenković stressed that the EU is also financially supporting the Western Balkans in the coronavirus pandemic, and that the European Commission is "preparing a major economic assistance package to accompany regular reports on the progress of these countries."
During the Croatian presidency of the EU Council, the European Commission presented a revised negotiation methodology, which the Croatian Prime Minister regards as "the legacy of the Croatian presidency".
The leaders of the 27 EU Member States and six Western Balkan countries will reaffirm the European perspective of Southeast European countries at a video conference today.
