BIHAĆ, May 8 (FENA) - About 800 migrants are currently accommodated in the reception camp at the Lipa site, which is about 30 kilometers away from the center of Bihać.

The police of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) are still carrying out activities on the relocation of migrants from abandoned buildings and city streets in Bihać. With the support of the cantonal inspection, private accommodation is also controlled, and misdemeanor sanctions have been announced for all those who transport illegal migrants to this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"We act on the orders of the competent state institutions, and our only goal is to protect the local population, but also to provide decent accommodation and treatment for all migrants and refugees. Maybe some of them do not want to be in the Lipa camp just because of the distance from the city center, but they will have to finally realize that they cannot behave the way they want to. Our priority is the control, protection and safety, but also the epidemiological and health situation in our canton. That is why we have decided that all those who bring migrants from Sarajevo in the future will be charged with misdemeanor offense," said the cantonal Minister of the Interior, Nermin Kljajić.

One of the goals of the Government of the Una-Sana Canton is the gradual reduction of the number of service users and the closure of the Temporary Reception Center Bira in downtown Bihać.

"We announced that when we opened the camp at Lipa and we are working on it. There are currently 1,100 migrants in the Bira center and the number of accommodated people has already decreased significantly. Considering that there is no more admission of new users, we hope that in a month or so we will reduce the number of accommodated migrants to around 600 and continue towards the final closure of that facility," Kljajić added.

In the Lipa camp, located between Bihać and Bosanski Petrovac, migrants are also provided with health care services.

"Several medical teams take care of the health of all the people accommodated in the camp, with e a modernly equipped clinic at their disposal. All migrants underwent triage checkup upon arrival at the camp. People with certain symptoms are placed in an isolation tent and are under constant medical supervision. If needed, testing for COVID-19 has also been organized, and if there are any positive persons, these people will be treated the same way as all citizens of the Una-Sana Canton," said the Minister of Health of the USC, Nermina Ćemalović.

According to the USC Interior Ministry, more than 5,000 migrants and refugees are currently residing in the canton. 1,100 of them are housed in the Bira and Miral reception centers. More than 700 people are staying in the centers Sedra and Borići, while there are about 800 migrants at the Lipa site. The remaining number of illegal migrants are still housed in private facilities in Bihać, Cazin and Velika Kladuša. A number of them are still hiding in abandoned buildings and houses.
