BRATUNAC, May 12 (FENA) - The 28th anniversary of the killings of Bosniaks in Bratunac was marked today at the Memorial Complex and Cemetery "Veljaci" with the laying of flowers, saying prayers and with an appropriate religious program.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no collective funerals were held this year, as was the case in previous years.

Representatives of the victims' association, RS Vice President Ramiz Salkić, Bosniak government officials in the municipalities of Bratunac and Srebrenica, and representatives of the Potočari Memorial Center attended the anniversary marking. The religious ceremony was led by Mufti of Tuzla, Vahid effendi Fazlović.

A representative of the association that gathers the survivors, Šuhra Sinanović, says that the commemoration of the killings of Bosniaks in Bratunac in 1992 began on May 3 in the town of Hranča, and ends on May 16.

"We visited Hranča, Glogova, where 65 civilians were shot dead. We visited site of Suha and the mass grave whose photos were shown to the entire world. 38 bodies were exhumed from that grave, of which eight children, 20 women and ten men. We also visited the stadium, the gym in the school, as well as the Ljubovija Bridge, from where 603 red roses were dropped into the Drina River.

In the coming days, the killings of Bosniaks in Biljača and Pirići will be commemorated, and with that, the commemoration will conclude," said Sinanović.

The Republika Srpska entity Vice President Ramiz Salkić says that despite the circumstances, important dates must be marked and the memory of the victims preserved.

"We want to call on the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the competent institutions to finally start doing their job so that they do not end up on the wrong side of history, meaning that they do not side with those who did not prosecute and punish war crimes," he added.

So far, 306 victims from the last war have been buried in the "Veljaci" Memorial Center in Bratunac.
