SARAJEVO, May 13 (FENA) - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister of Finance and Treasury Vjekoslav Bevanda signed a loan agreement today with the Head of the World Bank Office in BiH Emanuel Salians, approving EUR 33.1 million to BiH for the assistance in the prevention of COVID-19.
The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan agreement was signed by correspondence, without the usual ceremony, due to the measures taken to prevent the COVID-19 spread.
Bevanda thanked the representatives of the World Bank for their understanding and quick reaction in order to provide funds in the fight against the pandemic in BiH.
"The money is intended for both entities that are also beneficiaries of this loan and will be allocated to them so that the Federation of BiH will get 60 percent, and the Republika Srpska 40 percent. The conditions are favorable because the repayment period is 32 years with a seven-year grace period," Bevanda emphasized after signing the agreement.
The implementers of the project in the Federation of BiH, which will get 19,859,900 euros, are the FBiH ministries of health, labor and social policy. The entity of Republika Srpska will get 13,240,100 euros and the project is being implemented by the RS Ministry of Health and Social Care.
The aim of the project is, among other, to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to strengthen the preparedness of national public health systems and provide social assistance to the most vulnerable groups affected by the pandemic in BiH.
