BIHAĆ, May 19 (FENA) - Minister of the Interior of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Nermin Kljajić announced the relocation of a number of migrants from the Bira reception center on Friday, May 22, i.e. beginning of the process of closing that center in Bihać.
“This was also announced after yesterday's meeting of the Operational Group for Coordination of Activities and Monitoring of the Migrant Crisis in the Una-Sana Canton. We immediately started making an operational plan with the Police Directorate, therefore on Friday, May 22, we will start relocating migrants from the Bira reception center. In order to implement our plan as soon as possible, we asked the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other organizations to expand the accommodation capacity in the reception center at the Lipa site,” said Kljajić.
Nearly 650 people are currently accommodated in the Bira reception center. About 350 people should be relocated to the Lipa site between Bihać and Bosanski Petrovac.
“The biggest problem is that there are about 300 minors among them, which is why we asked UNICEF for help. It is necessary to relocate children in reception centers with more adequate conditions outside the Una-Sana Canton. This must be done in the next two or three days, otherwise all international organizations and competent state institutions will be responsible for them, when the Bira center closes. We want to relocate other 350 migrants to the reception center at Lipa site, because it is intended to be the solution to the problem, and not just one in a series of reception centers in this part of BiH,” Kljajić emphasized.
He also pointed out that the Operational Group for Coordination of Activities and Monitoring of the Migrant Crisis in the Una-Sana Canton has the support of the BiH Ministry of Security.
