BANJA LUKA, May 26 (FENA) - The Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) has sent a request to the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to review the decision of the BiH Central Election Commission (CEC) to postpone local elections to mid-November, SNSD Spokesperson Radovan Kovačević confirmed.
He said that they sent a valid argument to the Constitutional Court, because the decision of the CEC is in contradiction with the current laws.
“We expect that the request will be considered at the first session of the Constitutional Court of BiH and that it will be resolved as soon as possible. We know what the Constitutional Court of BiH is like, and this is another test of whether we live in a decent society or in a complete circus of a country called BiH,” Kovačević said in a statement to journalists in Banja Luka.
He explained that CEC had the opportunity to postpone the elections in a certain constituency, for a maximum of 30 days.
“If the date of the elections was disputable, then they could have postponed the elections seven days earlier, and not later as they did,” he added.
They expect that the Constitutional Court will accept those arguments and that the decision of the CEC will be annulled.
He added that the SNSD is completely ready for the elections, and insists that they be held within the legal deadline of October 4.
On Saturday, the CEC decided that the local elections in BiH, which were scheduled for October 4, would be postponed to November 15.
The CEC cited the lack of funds to be provided from the BiH level as the reason for postponing the elections.
