SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - We have a stable epidemiological situation in the Federation of BiH today and we can say that in the first wave we avoided the worst scenario of coronavirus spread, which unfortunately hit some much more developed and richer countries than us, said member of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health and Assistant Minister of Public Health Goran Čerkez in his address at the session of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament.

He added that this was the result of timely restrictive measures, the work of our health institutions, inspectors at border crossings, police officers who supervised people in isolation, as well as all our citizens who complied with prescribed measures.

“This is the result of the work of the Government of the Federation of BiH and the FBiH Crisis Staff and the Civil Protection Administration. Ultimately, it is the result of the work of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health, which adopted measures based on the Law on Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases, WHO recommendations, but also its own assessments of the epidemiological situation in FBiH,” said Čerkez.

Given that this extraordinary session of the House of Representatives also discusses public procurement during the coronavirus pandemic, Čerkez stressed that the FBiH Ministry of Health, as well as the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health and the FBiH Public Health Institute, were not involved nor consulted in any way regarding the public procurement conducted by the FBiH Civil Protection Administration.

“After that, in the report submitted to you, it is clearly stated that on May 12 this year, we sent information and data to the House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament - Fact-Finding Committee on the procurement of one hundred respirators from China that were paid 10.5 million KM,” added Čerkez.

Čerkez points out that in its act, FBiH Ministry of Health attaches documentation of the FBiH Public Health Institute, i.e. the plan of needs for medical equipment and medical devices for health institutions in FBiH, which was forwarded to the FBiH Civil Protection Crisis Staff.

“In the act, FBiH Ministry of Health explicitly stated that this ministry, as well as the Institute for Public Health of FBiH, did not participate at all, nor were consulted in the procurement of ventilators from China, which were paid 10.5 million KM,” said Čerkez.
