BIHAĆ, June 2 (FENA) - The Una-Sana Canton (USC) Police spokesman Ale Šiljdedić confirmed that more than 100 migrants arrive in that part of Bosnia and Herzegovina every day, which complicates humanitarian and security situation, given the occupancy of accommodation facilities in all reception centers, especially in Bihać and Velika Kladuša.

“As intercity bus transport has been re-established in the last seven days, on average between 100 and 150 new migrants arrive in the USC area on a daily basis. In accordance with the decision of the Task Force, the police officers control all vehicles and try to deter foreign nationals from entering our canton and direct them to the place of departure. Residence cards from reception centers in Sarajevo were found on a number of persons arriving here,” said Šiljdedić.

The Cantonal Ministry of the Interior has once again sent a warning that the uncontrolled influx of migrants to the USC greatly complicates the humanitarian and security situation in that part of BiH.

“Accommodation in all local reception centers are at capacity. Given the number of people already residing in the canton, each new arrival greatly complicates the humanitarian and thus the security situation. We will continue to do our job professionally, but it is necessary to establish any control over the movement of migrants through the country,” said the spokesman for the USC Police.

Several incidents have been registered in Velika Kladuša and Cazin, due to which the Special Support Unit of the Ministry of the Interior of the USC had to intervene.

"Two people were killed in a conflict between migrants in Cazin. Earlier, several abandoned buildings were set on fire in Velika Kladuša, where migrants were staying. The police intervened at the Miral temporary center at the request of employees of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the reason was the aggressive behavior of the users of the services of this center," it was said in the summary of the latest police reports on the situation with migrants in the Una-Sana Canton.

A few days ago, the mayor of Bihać, Šuhret Fazlić, again asked for the help of the competent state institutions.

“We hope to continue the successful cooperation with the European Commission and international organizations, given that with their help we managed to control the situation to some extent. The question really is what might have happened without their support. We also expect some concrete moves by the competent state institutions, because we must not and cannot allow last year's scenario, when the city was literally overrun. I hope that we will not be forced to make desperate moves, like the opening of the Vučjak camp,” said the mayor of Bihać, Šuhret Fazlić.

For now, we have no new information about the possible closure of the Bira reception center in downtown Bihać, which, as mentioned earlier, requires the consent of the BiH Ministry of Security.
