Re-exhumations in Gornja Kalesija - Remains of 53 victims to be re-associated

SARAJEVO, June 16 (FENA) - Under the order of the Prosecutor's Office of the Tuzla Canton, , the process of re-exhumation of 53 previously buried victims began at the cemetery in Memići, Gornja Kalesija, in order to add subsequently found remains of the buried victims, stated the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Yesterday and today, the remains of 21 victims were re-exhumed, and it is planned that the complete procedure of re-exhumation and re-association of remains for 53 victims will be completed by Friday.

During this week, at least ten graves will be exhumed in Memići each day, after which the remains of the victims and parts of their skeletons will be re-associated. The victims’ remains had been found and identified at various sites in the years after the burial.

These are the victims who were killed in the period from April to July 1992, in Zvornik and the surrounding areas.

The remains of these precise victims were found in the mass graves Crni vrh and Ramin grob. Some of the body parts were also found in individual surface terrain sites.

Re-exhumations and re-associations of skeletal parts are performed by ICMP anthropologists and are being conducted under the order of the Tuzla Canton Prosecutor's Office, with the consent and presence of the victims' families and investigators from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
