Turković-Rousson: France encourages BiH on its path to EU

SARAJEVO, June 17 (FENA) - Deputy Chairperson of the BiH Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Bisera Turković received Ambassador of the Republic of France Guillaume Rousson and discussed bilateral relations between BiH and France, focusing on the European integration and regional cooperation.

Minister Turković assessed that the political relations between the two countries are very good and without open issues, and expressed expectations that the political dialogue between the officials of the two countries will intensify.

In that sense, she repeated the invitation to the Minister of State for European Affairs Amélie de Montchalin to visit BiH and expressed hope that the visit, which was planned for April, will soon be realized, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out.

In a conversation with Ambassador Rousson, Minister Turković emphasized France's significant support in the EU integration process and expressed her gratitude in that regard.

She welcomed France's decision to extend the mandate of the AFD (French Development Agency) to Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of France's new Strategy for the Western Balkans.

Minister Turković informed Ambassador Rousson that our country supports the French proposal to renew the mandate of holders of key positions in the OSCE, and expressed gratitude to the French Government for professional assistance and support in organizing the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF).

Ambassador of the Republic of France, Guillaume Rousson, pointed out that France encourages BiH's approach to the European Union, and on that path BiH can count on French support. The EU in general, and France in particular, attach great importance to regional cooperation.

Referring to the planned visits of French officials, he said that the date of the visit of the Minister for Europe, Amélie de Montchalin, to Bosnia and Herzegovina has not been specified yet. That visit had to be postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.

The date of President Macron's visit is also not specified. He said that the idea was to sign an Agreement on the expansion of scope of AFD activities during Minister Amélie de Montchalin's visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, thus enabling the work of the AFD in BiH

He reminded that the goal of the French Strategy for the Western Balkans is to help the countries of the Western Balkans in their economic and social development, through the activities of the French Development Agency (AFD), the Press Office of the BiH MoFA stated.
