MOSTAR, June 17 (FENA) - HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović said that he reached an agreement with SDA President Bakir Izetbegović today, creating the preconditions for holding local elections in Mostar this year.
“We have signed two agreements, one is a framework agreement for the City of Mostar and the other refers to the Election Law of BiH to ensure legitimate elections and legitimate representation of the constituent peoples,” said Čović.
He pointed out that as early as next week, HDZ BiH and SDA can jointly submit a proposal to amend the Election Law concerning the City of Mostar, so that elections in Mostar can be held this year together with local elections in the rest of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The second agreement obliges us to start talks on the Election Law within three months and finish it in about six months, and to adopt it in the parliamentary procedure by the end of the year preceding the next general elections,” said Čović.
He thanked Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler and US Ambassador Eric Nelson, as well as representatives of the OHR, the OSCE and the British Ambassador, for "reaching these agreements in silence and without public pressure".
