MOSTAR, June 17 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović commented on reaching an agreement on elections for Mostar and said that this is good news not only for Mostar, but for the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As for the amendments to the Election Law, the SDA President said that it is an attempt to establish a balance between the two principles, the ethnic and civic principle, on which the Dayton Peace Agreement is based, and to remove all types of "national and civic discrimination".
Izetbegović emphasized that he had agreed with HDZ BiH President, Dragan Čović, that they would strengthen the integrity and transparency of the election process through the recommendations of the OSCE and the Venice Commission.
When it comes to the agreement for the City of Mostar, Izetbegović stated that the agreement prevented the possibility of domination of one people.
“The statute is drafted in a way that Mostar will be led jointly. To lead, not to rule. Of course, that means a lot of blockades, possible slowdowns but that is how it is at this moment. I don't know if this generation of politicians will live to see a more normal statute for the City of Mostar, but some in the future will,” Izetbegović stated.
