HNS: CEC BiH must be independent from political influence

FENA Press release

VITEZ, June 23 (FENA) - The Presidency of the Croat National Assembly (HNS) discussed current political issues in BiH, at the session held today in Vitez, with emphasis on holding local elections and details on the Election Law and the attitude towards the Central Election Commission (CEC BiH).

HNS President Dragan Čović informed members about all the details and signed agreements with the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) on holding elections in Mostar and the principles of amendments to the Election Law relating to the House of Peoples of the Federation of BiH and the Presidency of BiH, stated the PR Office of the HNS.

The HNS Presidency welcomed signing of two agreements between Croat and Bosniak political representatives on holding elections in Mostar and the principles of amendments to the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Legitimate representation is the foundation of constituency as the overriding principle of the BiH Constitution and must be protected through amendments to the Election Law in the next period with their full implementation, the HNS said.

"The signed agreements are of great political importance for the next steps and submitting proposals to the BiH Parliamentary Assembly. Legitimate representation is the foundation of constituency as a guiding constitutional principle. The presidency gives full support to the implementation of both agreements as a necessary step in resolving internal issues, but also intensified activities in foreign policy towards the European Union,” it is said in a statement.

The HNS presidency gave full support to the officials of the parties gathered in the HNS and joint participation in the local elections in areas where the position of the Croat people is endangered.
