The second BiH Pride March to take place on August 23 in Sarajevo

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 29 (FENA) - The second Pride March of the LGBTIQ community in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be held on August 23 in Sarajevo with the aim of contributing to a better position of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) persons in society, organizers said.

Although faced with an epidemiological situation caused by coronavirus, the LGBTIQ community says it knows what it is like to live in isolation and fear of potential attackers on a daily basis.

Therefore, using the right to public assembly guaranteed by the Constitution, they will organize a march because they cannot wait for systemic changes anymore.

They will seek to respond to the difficult economic and social situation, which has been further worsened by the current pandemic, unemployment, corruption, the departure of young people from the country and other problems affecting their lives.

They single out that "there are no safe public spaces for LGBTIQ people in BiH", and that they face homophobia even when going to public institutions, cafes, restaurants, theaters, cinemas or any other public place.
