Turković: Appointing a team for Trgovska gora would duplicate existing structure

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 1 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković said that the appointment of an expert team for Trgovska gora would duplicate the existing structure for these issues in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Affairs.

“Additional engagement of 22 people who are already employed and receive a salary and for whom, in addition to regular income, a special decision would determine additional compensation for their work, is inappropriate at a time when many unemployed are trying to regain lost jobs and rightly expect state support,” said Turković, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

It is important to note that a Working group has already been formed, and that at the proposal of Minister Staša Košarac, the Council of Ministers of BiH adopted a Decision on appointing a Coordination Body for monitoring activities related to radioactive waste disposal at Trgovska gora (May 21, 2020), and that the State Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety work together with Foreign Trade and Economic Relations. Now with all of that an effort is now being made to establish an expert group of 22 members, and the establishment of a legal advisory group has been announced, with additional payment for the same tasks.

“In addition, the materials for the session on this item of the agenda lacked the mandatory opinion of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Everything was justified with an excuse that it is an emergency situation,” said Turković.

The Minister asked why is such a hurry, if the Republic of Croatia has not yet adopted any official act regarding the environment at the Trgovska gora site, which, according to international law, is obliged to submit to Bosnia and Herzegovina for harmonization.

“The question is what will all the working bodies we have do if we continue to form and pay new commissions to which we will give different names? Isn't it time for us to start behaving more responsibly towards the limited resources at our disposal,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
