FENA Press release

ZAGREB , July 3 (FENA) - The Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb, on the occasion of marking the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, is organizing the Vukovar-Srebrenica Ultramarathon for the ninth year in a row.

The intention of the organizers is to remember all the innocent victims during the Serbian aggression on the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially to pay tribute to the victims of Vukovar and Srebrenica.

“By connecting the two cities, victims of the war, Vukovar and Srebrenica, we want to raise awareness of the importance of remembering and finally resolving the issue of missing persons as an expression of fundamental humanity for all those who still know nothing about the fate of their loved ones,” said the Bosniak National Minority Council.

The ultramarathon is held every year from July 6 to 10, where marathoners in five stages (Vukovar / Ovčara - Vinkovci - Brčko - Janja - Zvornik - Srebrenica / Potočari), run 227 kilometers, and this year due to the epidemiological situation, the marathon will be held only on the route Vukovar - Vinkovci.

Departure is scheduled for July 6 at 9:00 a.m. from the Ovčara Memorial Center.

The ultramarathon is being held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović, members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić, and the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Milan Bandić.
