Djonlagić: New public procurement law leads to transparency and less corruption

FENA Muhamed Hadžibegić

SARAJEVO, July 6 (FENA) – Vice-President of the Democratic Front Dženan Djonlagić said in Sarajevo today that the party has sent a new law on public procurement in BiH to the parliamentary procedure, whose main goals are transparency and the fight against corruption.

“The fight against crime and corruption are true European values and this bill, institutionally, largely prevents possible abuses in the field of public procurement,” pointed out Djonlagić.

He added that the law enables full transparency of the entire public procurement process, in which the contracting authority is responsible, then the public procurement officer - which is a novelty provided by law, and the Public Procurement Agency of BiH by offering all the elements of that process.

Djonlagić stated that the provisions related to exemptions from public procurement have been completely changed, which now treat these exemptions very precisely, which can no longer be determined arbitrarily but are fully harmonized with European directives in that area.

He emphasized that the law also treats the so-called professionals to file complaints, who have so far slowed down or overturned public procurement procedures by making the process 10 times more expensive.

“Also, the new law stipulates that any attempt to manipulate or abuse the public procurement process becomes a criminal offense, while under the current law it is only a misdemeanor,” underlined Đonlagić.
