SARAJEVO, July 9 (FENA) - Co-Chair of the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (also known as the US Helsinki Commission), Senator Roger Wicker, sent out a message on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, in which he called for respect for the victims.
He reminded that this July 11 we mark the 25th anniversary of the fall of the United Nations protected zone in Srebrenica, when more than 8,000 adult men and boys were murdered, for no other reason than their ethnicity.
He emphasized that he had visited Srebrenica with former United States President Bill Clinton on the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.
“Now, five years later, I join all Americans as we remember the victims and express solidarity with the citizens of BiH. The American people are committed to peace, human rights, democracy, prosperity and justice, and we are together with those who promote these values across Europe,” the senator added.
He says they are encouraged by the progress that has been made in BiH in recent years, but notes that much remains to be done because Bosnia and Herzegovina, he believes, has not reached its full potential.
“There are still those who deny that this terrible tragedy had happened. We strongly reject such a dangerous attitude. We have an obligation to honor the victims, advance the cause of justice, and commit to building a better world. On this anniversary, we stand together as we seek to move forward,” concluded Senator Roger Wicker in a video message published on the eve of the anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
