SREBRENICA, July 11 (FENA) - In his address on the occasion of marking of the 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide, Britain's Prince Charles stressed that the horrific events of July 1995 were qualified as genocide by international courts.

“The international community failed those who were killed, those who somehow survived, and who endured the terrible loss of loved ones. By remembering the painful past and learning its lessons, we must learn that this must never happen again,” said Prince Charles.

In a video address, he expressed regret that he could not attend the 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide and that he planned a trip during which he wanted to pay respect to the victims and meet with the mothers of Srebrenica, as well as families of survivors.

“I have cared deeply for many years for all that your country and the region have endured and I have followed with close interest and particular sympathy the steps you have taken on the long and hard road of reconciliation. I have greatly admired the difficult but essential work to address the legacies of past,” he stated.

He said he was deeply moved by the remarkable and courageous efforts of those working tirelessly in pursuit of justice, rebuilding trust and restoring hope to their communities. That is why the work of organizations, such as Remembering Srebrenica, is so vitally important.

“That is why 25 years after the terrible crimes were committed, we should stand in determined solidarity with those who have lost so much. I know that many of those families are still searching for their loved ones and their painful efforts continue to this day. I can only begin to imagine the pain of those who are still seeking answers and the enclosure they might bring,” said Prince Charles.
