SARAJEVO, July 11 (FENA) - The United States has pledged not to forget the Srebrenica genocide, and a more prosperous future must be built for today's generations, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said in a video message at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center where the 25th anniversary of the genocide committed in July 1995 is being marked.

The United States, he said, shares grief with families who have been tirelessly seeking justice for more than 8,000 innocent lives lost all those years ago.

„Those who remember the events of a quarter of a century ago have an obligation to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for today's generation, which will be good for all peoples regardless of religion and unite us with common values based on the rights of individuals. Let's make that future happen by remembering those lessons,“ said Pompeo.

He is among more than 35 presidents and prime ministers of the countries of the world, who recorded video messages broadcast as part of the marking of the 25th anniversary of the greatest crime committed in Europe after the Second World War.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, delegations and guests, as well as participants in the Peace March 2020, cannot attend the commemoration of the anniversary, and therefore, a small number of people will be able to pay their respects to the victims of Srebrenica this year.
