SREBRENICA, July 11 (FENA) - Srebrenica remains a painful symbol of the international community's failure to provide protection to civilians when they needed it most. This indelible stain on our common memory forces us to seek truth and justice, which is necessary for the peaceful coexistence of different communities, said in his address French President Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide.
Macron recalls that one of the worst tragedies in modern history took place in Srebrenica and that France did not forget more than 8,000 victims, adults and children, who were murdered there.
“With deep emotions, I greet the survivors of the genocide and their families and express my sincere condolences to them. Despite the health crisis, it was extremely important to gather and pay tribute to the victims. We still have a long way to go to achieve reconciliation and coexistence in BiH and the Western Balkans region, which is still marked by the conflicts of the 1990s. There is no room for denying history, revisionism or glorifying war criminals,” Macron said.
He added that the European project is built on fundamental values such as peace, justice, reconciliation, freedom and democracy. He states that BiH and the Western Balkans must have the opportunity to seek justice and achieve reconciliation.
“I hope that trust of France, Germany and building a common future can serve as inspiration. We share a common, European future. That is why I want to emphasize that France is with you, as it always has been, on the path to building a future of peace and prosperity in united Europe,” the President of France concluded.
