SARAJEVO, July 12 (FENA) - Screening of the film 'Voices of Srebrenica' was held in Sarajevo, a day after marking the 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide. It illustrates and reconstructs the course of events in 1.307 video testimonies of survivors from July 1995.
A representative of survivors, Hasan Nuhanović, told reporters that the extensive material, shown in the film, served to reconstruct the events in and around Srebrenica in the summer of 1995. The interviews were filmed specifically for the purposes of this film.
He specifies that the collection of statements will be stored in the archives of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center. He added that the film was made with the support of the Cinema for Peace Foundation based in Berlin.
“One part of testimonies is already stored in the Srebrenica Memorial Center, some are in the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity in Sarajevo. In the end, the collection of these statements will be in the archives of the Srebrenica Potočari Memorial Center,” he emphasized.
Nuhanović said that he participated in the creation of this film, but today he watched it in its entirety for the first time. For him, it is an important archive. He thinks that the testimonies of survivors are a significant contribution to memorialization.
President of the Association 'Mothers of Srebrenica' and one of the participants of the film, Munira Subašić, emphasized the importance of documenting memories and said that they tried to tell the truth because the truth is most important to them.
“It means a lot to us. When the mothers of Srebrenica die, the truth will remain,” she emphasized.
