War Childhood Museum presents #ChildrenAndGenocide exhibition in Sarajevo

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 2 (FENA) - Citizens and visitors to Sarajevo will be able to see the exhibition #ChildrenAndGenocide at Children's Square in Sarajevo from July 31 to August 6.

The War Childhood Museum realized this campaign in cooperation with the Srebrenica Memorial Center and the Humans of Amsterdam platform, and it was supported by the Sigrid Rausing Trust and the Swedish government.

The team of one of the most followed European platforms for the presentation of personal stories, Humans of Amsterdam, which is followed on social networks by more than half a million people, visited BiH at the invitation of the War Childhood Museum in BiH, the Museum stated.

The platform's founder, Debra Barraud, visited several BiH cities and spoke with people whose childhoods were marked by the Srebrenica genocide. The portraits she made were presented along with their personal stories as part of the #ChildrenAndGenocide global campaign, which was seen on social media by more than 11 million people.

“After great interest in the campaign on social networks, we decided to present some of these stories through a photo exhibition in Sarajevo. This fall, we will set up the exhibition in Stockholm, and perhaps in other cities as well. The significance of these stories is timeless, and I hope that the War Childhood Museum in the future will document the experiences of those whose childhood was marked by genocide in Rwanda, Cambodia and the Holocaust,” said the founder and Director of the War Childhood Museum Jasminko Halilović.

In his video message on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the campaign and the #ChildrenAndGenocide exhibition were also mentioned by the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven. He emphasized that he is looking forward to hosting the exhibition in Sweden this fall.

Sweden is one of the sponsors of this campaign and exhibition, and the First Secretary of the Swedish Embassy in BiH Johan Norqvist was among the first ones to visit the exhibition.
