SARAJEVO, August 7 (FENA) - Presidents of political parties People and Justice, the Social Democratic Party, Our Party and the BiH Independent List signed a coalition agreement "Sarajevo Agreement 2020" for joint participation in the local elections in Sarajevo Canton.

The agreement contains principles, guidelines and a plan of joint political action in nine municipalities of Sarajevo Canton and the City of Sarajevo. SDP President Nermin Nikšić said after signing the agreement that these parties are ideologically different, but they have remained consistent in what they are doing with the intention of making Sarajevo a modern metropolis.

“Before the elections, we showed that there are parties that are ready to work on what is a priority for the citizens. We want to make Sarajevo a modern capital, not only on paper,” said Nikšić.

President of the People and Justice, Elmedin Konaković, emphasizes that these parties want to continue the concept that has begun to change its functioning on the political scene in BiH.

“In the past period, we have shown that a good agreement with clear goals can really be the right path for substantial changes on the political scene. It is the right time to compare two concepts, ours, in which we compromise the most important things and the concept of the other side that gathers around mathematical coalitions and whose functioning you can see through the brutal attacks they write about each other,” said Konaković.

He added that team of people who drafted the document, led by Edin Forto, defined what is most important to the citizens.

“You can read what the essential principles are, among other things, to make public administration transparent, speed up processes and digitalize the administration, face corruption, improve the way of employment. I am glad that despite all the pressures, we persisted in this, neither when they threatened us, nor when they offered us positions,” Konaković pointed out.

He added that there is no doubt when it comes to the issue of the winner of elections in Sarajevo Canton, where he expects absolute victory of this coalition.

“We will be absolute winners when it comes to mayors, and especially when it comes to councilors. We will stop election theft in such a way that the election commissions will include professionals and lawyers, who will ensure regular elections for 2022,” concluded Konaković.

President of the BiH Independent List, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, emphasizes that the four have maintained consistency, and that they will cooperate and agree on all aspects of cooperation until the elections.

Former Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto added that there are things that the parties do not agree on, but this program presents everything they agree on and on the basis of which mayors and councils can work for the next four years.

The "Sarajevo Agreement 2020" includes, among other things, the protection of the public good and well-being of citizens, equal treatment of all citizens, regardless of ethnic, national, racial, sexual, religious and party affiliation, transparency and zero tolerance of corruption and nepotism, digitalization and depoliticization of public administration, reducing public spending by cutting public administration and administration costs, creating a viable and stimulating local economic ecosystem with radical business facilitation, empowering young people and increasing their influence in decision-making processes, strengthening the cultural offer available to all and more.
