SARAJEVO, November 26 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina entered the development of its modern statehood with epochal decisions of the First, Second and Third Sessions of the National Anti-Fascist Council of People's Liberation of BiH (ZAVNOBiH) in 1943, 1944 and 1945, said academician Mirko Pejanović for FENA commenting on the occasion of the Statehood Day of BiH, November 25 and the values that this historical date inherits.
In this context, he points out that the continuity of BiH's statehood has never been emphasized enough, explaining that the three mentioned sessions completed the establishment of Bosnia and Herzegovina's statehood in the Second World War.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the definition created within the ZAVNOBiH decisions, became a state of its citizens and equal peoples, and in that determination, 45 years after the Second World War, it developed to the level of a middle-developed republic within the Yugoslav federation,” Pejanović specified.
At the same time, he recalls that after the dissolution of the former SFRY and the introduction of a multiparty system in the 1990s, BiH "went through" several historic challenges, including the first multiparty elections, a referendum on the independent and sovereign status of BiH, and defending BiH from the aggression from 1992 until 1995, and then Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995.
He is of the opinion that the European and Euro-Atlantic future of BiH represents a strategic goal for which the vast majority of its citizens are committed.
When asked about the projection of the historical path and political future of BiH, Pejanović stressed that it is the completion of BiH's integration into the EU and NATO in order for BiH to become a legal, democratic and self-sustaining country within the global system of free European states and peoples.
Bosnia and Herzegovina Statehood Day is a holiday celebrated every November 25th. On that day in 1943, at the first session of ZAVNOBiH in Mrkonjić Grad, BiH statehood was restored and the equality of its peoples was ensured, as well as the equality of RBiH within the Yugoslav federation, with historical borders dating back to medieval Bosnia.
