SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - The CURE Foundation presented today the "Guide to Economic Empowerment of Women", authored by Vanja Burić and Marijana Šećibović.

Human Rights Ombudsman Jasminka Džumhur is the editor of the Guide, which is a review of the analysis of research on existing employment policies and programs at the Federation of BiH level, aimed at socially marginalized groups of women, focusing on women victims of domestic violence, while reviewers are Amila Ždralović and Maida Zagorac.

As it was pointed out at the press conference, gender-based segregation in the labor market is still present in BiH, as well as stereotypes about women's and men's jobs.

The share of women among the unemployed population is higher, employed women are paid less than their male counterparts, and are less represented in management positions.

The latest survey by the BiH Agency for Statistics found that there is a gender-based gap of 25 percent in the employment rate.

Jasminka Džumhur points out that the Guide is the beginning of a broader approach to the issue of economic empowerment of women in BiH.

"The Guide is an informative material that should help a large number of women how to approach the exercise of their rights, and at the same time, it is an advocacy material, because we recognized weaknesses in the system related to women's employment and access to jobs," explained Džumhur.

The author of the Guide, Vanja Burić, emphasizes the fact that employment in the FBiH takes place under general conditions, but that the situation on the ground is significantly different, i.e. that there is still discrimination against women in the labor market.

"Women often do not have equal conditions, get fired during pregnancy, their contracts are not extended if they become pregnant or apply for protection of their rights, and the situation is further complicated if we talk about women from marginalized groups such as Roma women, women from rural areas, older women or members of the LGBTIQ population," said Burić.

The guide gives concrete advice to women on how to get a job and increase competitiveness in the labor market. Also, the recommendations "What the BiH authorities should do to improve the position of women in the labor market" were mapped at the presentation.
