SARAJEVO, February 23 (FENA) - The Integrated Local Development Project (ILDP) implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2008, as a joint project of the Swiss Government and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in BiH and in cooperation with local authorities at all levels, has achieved significant results and helped develop a strategic planning system.

The ILDP project has significantly contributed to the standardization of development planning and management at the local level and has supported more than 60 local self-government units throughout BiH in creating and implementing their development strategies.

Similar assistance was provided to all cantons, the Brčko District of BiH and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. ILDP has helped lay the groundwork for establishing an entity-level strategic planning and management system, including the establishment of financial mechanisms to target support for the realization of local development priorities.

The UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in BiH Stephen Kinloch Pichat said in a press release before the final conference that the project links strategic planning with annual and budget planning in government institutions and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals.

Director of Development Cooperation of the Swiss Embassy in BiH Siroco Messerli emphasizes that Switzerland has provided significant financial support to the ILDP project for 14 years and expresses satisfaction with the development of local planning from municipalities and cities to higher levels of government.

As he specified, this project has enabled the participation of citizens in their communities, private and non-governmental sector in planning at the local level.

"The establishment of such planning systems paves the way for the realization of sustainable development goals and the 2030 Agenda in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Switzerland will remain engaged in the field of local government, through other projects and activities," he stressed.

He thanked the representatives of all levels of government who participated in the project and said: "Now it is time to take over the system and continue to develop it further."
