SARAJEVO, February 24 (FENA) - Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein ef. Kavazović, after it was announced that the Russian Federation has invaded Ukraine, appealed to stop the war and the invasion.
"This morning, we were awakened by news and scenes from Ukraine that reminded us all of the period of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and once again showed that we have learned nothing from our past. The evil ideology of war that was not defeated on the hills around Srebrenica, Sarajevo and other Bosnian cities today threatens not only the whole of Europe but also the world," said the Rais-l-ulama Kavazović.
He expressed hope that the international community and the world will not sit idly by, as it had been the case with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they will do everything to stop hostilities and aggression and to help the people of Ukraine live in peace and dignity which they deserve.
This is also an opportunity, he added, for everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe to recognize those policies and ideologies that are rooted in hatred, brute force, blackmail, belittling and denying those different and the other and justifying it by their alleged vulnerability and disenfranchisement and to oppose them together until it is too late.
"In these difficult times for humanity and especially for the friendly people of Ukraine, we, aware of our inability to change anything, can at least raise our voice in defense of the principles of peace and resolving misunderstandings by agreement and asking accountability from those who resort to war and violence.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine," said in his appeal Rais Kavazović.
