SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - Ahead of today's event in Sarajevo on "Climate change in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of global initiatives and policies", participants stressed in a statement to reporters the importance of this topic and the necessary activities to combat the harmful effects of global climate change.

On behalf of one of the cooperating institutions in the organization of this gathering, Adnan Efendić, Chairman of the Committee of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament for Physical Planning, Housing and Communal Policy and Tourism, reminds that Bosnia and Herzegovina is vulnerable to challenges such as floods and droughts, but also the economic consequences of these enormous events.

Steliana Nedera, UNDP Resident Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said before the meeting that this conference is an opportunity to discuss what has been done so far and what should be done in the future to prevent the consequences of climate change.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina has so far benefited from certain funds such as the Global Environment Facility, and UNDP is also assisting in drafting legislation in this area, and many projects have been implemented. Last year, Bosnia and Herzegovina was the first to adopt the Nationally determined contributions to reduce the impact of climate change under the Paris Agreement,” Nedera said.

“My message is - climate change is here and climate action cannot wait. The overall financial needs are great, but quality changes are also possible within the current funds,” she said.

Recalling that today is the International Women's Day, and that on this occasion there is talk of "gender equality today for sustainable development tomorrow", Nedera said that women contribute greatly to climate action, which is why they should be kept in management and leadership in this area.

The event on "Climate change in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the context of global initiatives and policies" was organized by the FBIHMinistry of Environment and Tourism and UNDP in cooperation with representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
