SARAJEVO, March 15 (FENA) - Professor from the Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University in Japan, Dr. Noboru Noguchi presented the advantages of "smart agriculture" at an online lecture organized today by the Embassy of Japan in BiH and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sarajevo.

At a lecture entitled "Japan's smart agriculture towards a sustainable society" attended by participants from across the former Yugoslavia, Noguchi said the main problems of Japanese agriculture were the old age of farmers and the sharp decline in their number.

"'Smart agriculture' means greater use of data to reduce costs and introduce automation and robotics in the production process to compensate for labor shortages," Noguchi explained.

He added that such a large amount of collected data will be analyzed through artificial intelligence, after which the obtained information will be applied to a certain physical space where robots then work together with humans.

"That is why we say that we are currently in "Society 5.0" and we are trying to make that society come to life," said Noguchi.

He presented several examples of the application of "smart agriculture" in the cultivation and harvesting of vegetables, as well as the technology used in that process.

In his introductory address, the Japanese Ambassador to BiH Ito Makoto pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina has significant agricultural potential, which is why they wanted to share their experiences because "smart agriculture" is important for sustainable development.
