SARAJEVO, April 6 (FENA) - A solemn session of the Sarajevo City Council was held in the afternoon at the Sarajevo City Hall on the occasion of April 6, the Day of the City of Sarajevo, in the presence of members of the city administration, municipal councils and other levels of authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, diplomatic corps, the international community and other guests from several other cities around the world.

In his address to the guests, the Chairman of the City Council, Jasmin Ademović, congratulated the fellow citizens and stated that April 6th is an ambiguous date for the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He reminded of the sufferings of war, but also of the victory of Sarajevo over fascism, the victory of a city whose messages of peace are directed towards the future.

Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić then addressed the guests and reminded them of the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the city in the Second World War in April 1945, 33 days before the capitulation of Nazi Germany.

“Let us rejoice and celebrate our 77 years of freedom. Let us jealously guard our eternal fire of freedom,” said Karić, among other things.

In the field of science and education, the April 6th Award for 2022 was presented to professor Rifat Škrijelj, in the field of health and social protection, the award went to Dr. Željko Ler, and in the field of economy, the award went to the Company for Transport and Services "Alternativa" d.o.o. Sarajevo.

Jordi Pujol Puente, a reporter from Barcelona, whose photos traveled the world during the war siege of Sarajevo, was posthumously declared 'The Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo'.
