SARAJEVO, April 13 (FENA) - Officer of the Economic Department of the US Embassy in BiH Ryan Miller visited the Tuzla Cantonal Chamber of Commerce to review the overall situation in the region's economy, as part of the final activities of the three-year term.
Miller said his intention is to learn about the economy, the developments and the challenges and consequences of the pandemic.
"It is of great importance that at the end of the three-year mandate, I find out more information about economic trends, and the Chamber is the right place to see the complete picture," Miller added.
The President of the Cantonal Chamber of Commerce of Tuzla, Nedret Kikanović, presented the economic trends in the Tuzla Canton.
"This canton has potential, it has significant results when it comes to the production of plastics, textiles, footwear, wood industry, machine industry, we are leaders in the production of electricity. It is mainly economically export-oriented towards the EU and the indicators of our furniture exports to the United States are also significant. We know that there are capacities for progress, but we are hindered by the slowness of making decisions and laws at the state level," said Kikanović.
He also presented to the guests from the Embassy the complexity of the chamber system, which only in the FBiH operates on a voluntary basis, while the Foreign Trade Chamber, the chamber system of Republika Srpska and the Brčko District have mandatory membership, as is the case with the Chamber of Commerce of BiH.
"A proposal for a new law on chambers has been prepared, sent to the FBiH Government, to the parliamentary procedure, where it has been 'on ice' or four years," said Kikanović.
