SARAJEVO, June 23 (FENA) - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet visited today the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) with associates and officials of the UN Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bachelet talked with the permanent member of the Presidency of the HJPC BiH Sanin Bogunić and the Deputy Director of the Secretariat Hajro Pošković about the functioning of the HJPC BiH and the judicial system in BiH and the importance of the rule of law and legal security of BiH citizens.
Bogunić informed Bachelet on the challenges that the institution has recently faced related to the transfer of competencies from the state to the entity level and other important topics for the judiciary of our country, such as strengthening the integrity of judicial officials, the process of appointment and evaluation, disciplinary responsibility judges and prosecutors and the need to adopt amendments to the Law on the HJPC of BiH.
In the context of human rights protection, the officials pointed out the problem that BiH citizens are facing, and these are lengthy court proceedings, which is why the HJPC BiH has undertaken a number of activities aimed at resolving the oldest court cases and ensuring prompt justice for citizens.
The issue of hate speech and discrimination was also highlighted during the meetings and Deputy Director of the Secretariat Pošković stressed that the HJPC BiH recognized the importance of monitoring court cases related to discrimination, and for that purpose created special tools in the System for Automatic Case Management in Courts and Prosecutor's Offices on the basis of which it is possible to determine the type of discrimination, which ultimately aims to improve the fight against discrimination, the HJPC said.
