SARAJEVO, July 7 (FENA) - The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) organized an AgriTech summit on the digital future of agriculture in Sarajevo, as part of the EU4Business project funded by the European Union to strengthen capacities for economic growth and employment in BiH and improve competitiveness and innovation of BH companies in selected sectors.

The Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ekaterina Dorodnova, pointed out that the aim of the event was to promote the digital future of the agricultural and food sector, and she expects to address some of the key challenges related to the increasing demands for technological improvements in that sector.

She believes that in everyday life and in the current context in the world, it is very important to build resilience in food production.

"We are doing everything in our power in BiH so that this country does not face a crisis in terms of food supply. We are here, we work to help, but it would be important that the policies in that sector follow the digitization and innovation that we have in the EU when it comes to the agricultural sector. I can assure you that the EU stands firmly with the citizens of this country.

We have the means to help the economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to help with expertise and policy development. Our ambition is to make BiH a better place for starting a business and for growth. In order to accelerate the growth of companies dealing with high technology, we cooperate with the authorities of this country, directors of such companies and with the business community," emphasized Dorodnova.

She hopes that today's meeting will become an important regional event and emphasizes that they will continue to invest in the development of agrotechnology.

Resident representative of UNDP in BiH, Stelian Nedera, among others, singled out from today's meeting, a conversation with food producers and processors in BiH about digital solutions and new technologies.

"We hope that the digital transformation of agriculture in this country will receive an additional impetus with today's event, where representatives from 12 countries will talk about concrete solutions and practical examples," she emphasized.

She also used the opportunity to announce a related project, which concerns business recovery. As part of this, a call for project proposals will be published soon, and 1.6 million euros will be allocated for the purpose of digitization in agriculture.

The AgriTech summit is one of the final activities of the EU4Business project, which directly supports farmers, small farms and entrepreneurs throughout BiH to use their potential and achieve better competitiveness on domestic and foreign markets.

The project is jointly implemented by GIZ, UNDP BiH and the International Labor Organization.
