MOSTAR, August 12 (FENA) - International Youth Day was marked in Mostar today under the theme "About us with us", within the project "Think, learn, decide and tell".

On this occasion, the Association for Education and Development "Dignitet" in cooperation with the Youth Council of the City of Mostar held a presentation prepared by young people in the premises of the City Hall, as well as a panel discussion.

President of the Youth Council of the City of Mostar, Zaim Mehić, told FENA that this is a great opportunity to present to young people what is being done in this city, as well as in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and what is the state and position of young people in our society.

He further explained that under the Law on Youth of the Federation of BiH, and a similar one exists in the Republika Srpska, young people have the opportunity to unite and organize through youth organizations, and then through the Youth Council within their municipality, city, canton, and then the Federation of BiH.

Vice President of the "Dignitet" Association Aida Kajan added that the very fact that young people are leaving our country indicates that the situation is alarming and that certain measures must be urgently taken through institutional, state authorities in order to provide young people with opportunities to realize their potential.

She also pointed out that young people can influence socio-political situation in our country because they are a treasure of knowledge and a great potential.

“We need to give them the opportunity and possibility to have their voice heard. That's why today, in the City Hall of Mostar, we want to send a message to the public that the voice of young people is heard. We want their rights and their problems to be heard so that they can finally start to be solved,” emphasized Kajan.

Project "Think, learn, decide and tell!" is implemented within the framework of the Regional Program of Local Democracy in the Western Balkans 2 - ReLOaD2, financed by the European Union (EU) and co-financed by the City of Mostar, and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In 1999, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution declaring International Youth Day, which is celebrated by various associations around the world with different activities, all with the aim of promoting their knowledge, skills and abilities.
