SARAJEVO, September 28 (FENA) - The election of the new chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be voted on tomorrow, although it was announced as one of the items on the agenda of the session of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC). Instead of the election, the members will vote on the possible annulment of the competition, confirmed HJPC president Halil Lagumdžija.

According to Lagumdžija, there will be no appointment of the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH on Thursday due to the decision of the Sub-council not to propose any of the candidates, and this decision will be considered in the continuation of the HJPC session.

“This decision will be discussed if the Council takes the opposite position then, according to some procedure, the Sub-council could withdraw immediately, take a position in accordance with the Council's decision and propose candidates. But that will only happen at the next session. There can be no appointment tomorrow. There will be an initial discussion about the position of the Sub-council,” explained Lagumdžija.

According to him, this decision of the Sub-council came because it was considered that it was not good to start the procedure with one candidate. As he said, this is the position of the Sub-council, which will be decided by all members of the HJPC on Thursday.

“The discussion on the position of the Sub-council to annul the competition procedure, that is, to start a new competition procedure is on the agenda for tomorrow. And if that position does not get the necessary majority, it automatically means that meritorious appointments will be made, but that could only happen at the next session of the Council if that proposal passes,” stated Lagumdžija.

The candidates for the chief prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH were supposed to present their work program at the session of the HJPC on Thursday.

Lagumdžija said earlier that Milanko Kajganić, Diana Kajmaković, Miroslav Janjić, and Seid Marušić will be invited to the interviews, given that their applications have been verified.

Two days ago, the United States of America (USA) imposed sanctions on Diana Kajmaković, the state prosecutor and candidate for the position of chief prosecutor, with the explanation that they consider her responsible for corruption or complicity in corruption, and for undermining democratic processes or institutions in the Western Balkans.
