SARAJEVO, September 29 (FENA) - The Helsinki Committee for Human Rights that operates in Bijeljina and the Association for Democratic Initiatives from Sarajevo today presented the project "Equal opportunities for employment and dignity at work for LGBTIQ persons in BiH", which they are implementing with the support of the USAID/INSPIRE program.
The aim of this project is to contribute to the suppression of discrimination against LGBTIQ persons in BiH by strengthening the capacity of competent institutions, trade unions and employers to create effective mechanisms for the protection of the LGBTIQ community in the working environment.
On this occasion, the HCHR in BiH presented the results of the research on the mentioned forms of discrimination and announced the programs to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations, trade unions, employers' associations, ministries of labor and other individuals to jointly create initiatives aimed at improving the position of LGBTIQ persons in this sector.
Advocacy activities that will be carried out in this regard also relate to the harmonization of the Labor Laws in the FBiH, the RS and the Brčko District of BiH with the Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, strengthening the capacity of trade unions to provide legal assistance in these cases and strengthening the capacity of employers to create a stimulating and equal work environment for all workers, without any forms of discrimination.
The project lasts until May 2023.
