BiH Ombudspersons: Accept the concept of children's rights as a daily practice

SARAJEVO, November 14 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina Ombudspersons Jasminka Džumhur, Nives Jukić and Nevenko Vranješ call for respect for children's opinions and the inclusion of children in decision-making on all matters that concern them.

They sent the message in accordance with the slogan of this year's marking of the World Children's Day "Inclusion, for every child", coordinated with the global UNICEF campaign.

From climate change, education and mental health, to ending racism and discrimination, ombudspersons point to the need for children to participate in issues that are important to their generation. They appeal to adults to accept the concept of children's rights as a daily practice in order to contribute to the full implementation of children's rights in our country.

Ombudspersons draw special attention to the need to include children with developmental disabilities in regular education and to ensure more adequate health care for children with serious psychiatric diagnoses.

We should not ignore the problems in realizing the rights of migrant children in BiH, as well as the problem of Roma children in all aspects of their lives, as well as other children who, most often due to poverty, are a socially excluded category.

By continuously gaining insight into the state of children's rights, in order to monitor the application of international standards in this area, and based on citizen appeals, research, media reports and other sources of knowledge, the ombudspersons notice that the situation regarding the protection and realization of children's rights is becoming more complicated (frequent peer violence, violence on the Internet and other forms of violence against children).

With this in mind, the ombudspersons call for additional efforts so that every child in Bosnia and Herzegovina enjoys all the rights that belong to him/her in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, with a clear message that we are all obliged to hear the child's voice.
