SARAJEVO, December 12 (FENA) - French Ambassador to BiH Christine Toudic opened Simone de Beauvoir's francophone multimedia library “Petite France" at the Gimnazija Obala in Sarajevo today.

“Ninety students of the bilingual Francophone class and 132 students who learn French outside the bilingual class will be able to use more than 180 French works of all genres. I am glad that we can make tablets for learning French available to the students,” said Toudic.

Her goal is for the French language to regain its rightful place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and she pointed out that only about 6,000 students study the French language in the country. In the future, they will advocate for that number to be much higher.

“Knowledge of the French language is a significant asset for students. Learning French means further enriching your biography, which consists not only of cultural and personal wealth but is also essential for higher studies in France or other Francophone countries,” stressed Ambassador Toudic.

Principal of Sarajevo’s Grammar School “Gimnazija Obala” Benjamin Hedžić stated that the multimedia library which was opened today enables the students to make their teaching process more qualitative, innovative and modern, and to give them access to those media, which are necessary to learn the French language.

“Cooperation with the French Embassy and the French Institute has resulted in students having good working conditions. Overall, this is a positive story that leads to a greater number of enrolled students who want to study the French language,” said Hedžić.

Since its opening in September 2018, the bilingual francophone class, which includes more intensive French language classes as well as mathematics and chemistry subjects in French, has been attended by five generations of students.

Since September 2021, this bilingual class has been recognized as a department of excellence, for which it received the LabelFrancEducation certificate.
