SARAJEVO, January 3 (FENA) - The War Childhood Museum in Sarajevo, the guardian of children's memories marked by conflicts and terror, ended the past year successfully with a large number of visits and numerous projects implemented.

This year, more than 10,000 people visited the exhibition in the Museum, which evokes the unique experience of growing up in the war. Although the setting changes, the personal stamp of the Museum always remains the same, which is to collect and immortalize personal items, pieces of clothing, toys, stories, audio and video testimonies, photographs, letters and drawings of children who survived the war.

The Project Manager of the Museum, Mirela Geko, told FENA that in 2022 they implemented a series of activities. In addition to the exhibition space, she pointed out that they are also engaged in educational activities, but that they constantly organize activities related to the improvement of the community.

Speaking about the exhibition activities, Geko said that in addition to the permanent exhibition in Sarajevo, they also had an exhibition in Kyiv, but due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the exhibition was closed to the public.

She emphasized that the Museum had five foreign exhibitions and that one is currently being held in the Netherlands. She said that she is particularly proud of the fact that the Museum participated in a large international conference for museums that was held in Prague in August, where they had an exhibition pavilion.

Geko said that the Museum repays the debt to the community through various projects and that this year they organized an action to distribute 2,200 gift packages of friendship, which they send to children of Ukraine and refugees in Poland.

She reminded that last year they collected gift packages for children on the move and those housed in the temporary reception center Ušivak and other refugee camps.

“We are glad that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina trust us and that together with us they want to make the childhood of some other children who are currently at war more beautiful,” she said.

Geko says that the War Childhood Museum has been actively working in those three categories since its foundation and that it will continue to work in that direction.

Geko said that it is the only museum in BiH that was awarded by the Council of Europe and that it is recognized among professionals as a museum that have made incredible things.
