SARAJEVO, February 12 (FENA) - The City of Sarajevo organized an action yesterday to collect aid for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria in the City Hall.

Citizens donated blankets, folding beds, electric heaters, gas heaters, folding chairs, sleeping bags, tarps, tents, solar chargers, lamps, and other necessary equipment.

The Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, said that the donations would be delivered to the Red Cross, which will further distribute the equipment through its channels.

She pointed out that they decided to follow the examples of various institutions and associations that organized collecting aid similarly.

“This will not be the only form of aid since Sarajevo has twin cities in Turkey, and one of them is Sanliurfa, where the entire hospital collapsed, and we will help with the reconstruction,” she pointed out.

The Mayor points out that everyone should give as much as possible since the Sarajevo citizens know best what it is like to be in need.

“We felt this during the siege of Sarajevo and the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina. I remember as children we received toys from our friends from all over the world,” Mayor Karić recalled.
