SARAJEVO, March 13 (FENA) - Electronic commerce is becoming one of the imperatives and something that businesses must do to survive in the long term, it was highlighted today in Sarajevo during the presentation of the results of a comprehensive eCommerce market research in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the event called "Discover eCommerce R@volution", which was organized by the eCommerce Association in BiH, the results of research on the habits of BiH consumers and online retailers were presented, and special attention was paid to the analysis of how protected online retailers and consumers feel by the current laws that include online business.

Executive Director of the eCommerce Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belma Agić, said that this is an important event for the development of the online market in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She noted that this is the first time that someone has done comprehensive e-commerce research in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“E-commerce is the fastest growing branch of business, both in the world and our country, but no one has yet done research in this way in BiH. On behalf of the e-Commerce Association, we are proud to have managed to conduct two surveys. One relates to habits of consumers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the other research is dedicated to web shops, i.e. to people who sell and trade online,” Agić added.

Almir Peštek, a professor at the School of Economics and Business of the University of Sarajevo and a member of the Advisory Board of the Association, was actively involved in the creation and implementation of the research. Today, he presented the results on consumer habits in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We conducted research on 1,317 respondents from BiH who had experience with electronic commerce. What is interesting is that approximately three-quarters of our respondents made up to five purchases online in the last three months. Also, three-quarters of respondents say that the participation of online purchases in total monthly purchases is about 10 percent. I am happy because we see significant participation of social commerce in purchases. Approximately 83 percent of our respondents buy goods through web shops, and 17 percent through social commerce platforms,” Peštek added.

He added that research shows that three-quarters of respondents make purchases via mobile phone, and 20 percent of respondents have a special card or account that they use for online payments.

“Electronic commerce is present and future and all businesses are going through digital transformation today. Our research has shown that e-commerce is part of the lives of BiH citizens, and it is to be expected that it will develop even more in the future,” Peštek pointed out.

President of the eCommerce Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Orhan Gazibegović, stated that analysis of the experience of web shops and the perspective of digital trade are key elements of the development of the eCommerce market in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Consultant for digital transformation and member of the Association's Board of Directors, Aida Soko reminded that the FBiH Government had adopted and sent the Draft Law on Internal Trade to the parliamentary procedure and emphasized the importance of this law for all participants of the eCommerce ecosystem in BiH.
