SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - Representatives of the executive power in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the American Chamber of Commerce in BiH (AmCham BiH) spoke today in the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH at the event 'Public-Private Dialogue: AmCham government 2 Business Talks', about the current topics concerning the BiH Economy.

The participants also talked about the most important issues and challenges that await the new convocation of the BiH Council of Ministers in the process of accelerating economic development and growth of the domestic economy. They discussed cyber security, digitalization, and national fiscal policy.

Secretary General of AmCham BiH Nedim Hamzić pointed out that this chamber continuously works to improve the economic and business environment in BiH.

“It is a pleasure that today we have the opportunity to cooperate with the Council of Ministers. Our job, as a business community, is to ask questions and open topics that are important for Bosnia and Herzegovina and to seek improvements in the legislative framework concerning the Council of Ministers. There are many solutions on our table and we will continue to suggest topics to the Council of Ministers. We must not allow BiH to trot behind the countries of the region and other European countries,” said Hamzić.

Some of the topics of the event, in addition to digitalization and cyber security, are the modernization of healthcare and finding solutions for easier work for international companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Michael J. Murphy emphasizes that Bosnia and Herzegovina faces numerous economic challenges, a high unemployment rate, and the departure of young people from the country, while the rates of economic growth are low, especially compared to other countries in the region. He also added that the country is not attractive for legitimate foreign investment to the extent it should be.

“For too long, the political leaders of the country have directed their time and energy towards unproductive and ethno-nationalistic quarrels or the realization of their own interests, instead of creating the policies necessary to generate strong economic growth and create comprehensive prosperity for the citizens of BiH. It is time for Bosnia and Herzegovina to commit to economic reforms, as well as those in the area of the rule of law,” said Murphy.

He notes that the members of the American Chamber of Commerce, as well as many others in the private sector, have experience in creating jobs, training and mentoring young people, and they are ready to, in cooperation with the executive authorities in BiH, "come to grips" with the mentioned problems.
