SARAJEVO, April 24 (FENA) - A solemn reception in Sarajevo marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Czech Republic, and BiH and the Slovak Republic.

Numerous dignitaries from the political, cultural and public life of BiH, as well as the diplomatic and military corps in BiH, attended the reception. Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konaković, the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to BiH Roman Hlobeň and the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to BiH Ivana Hlavsova addressed those present at the reception.

Minister Konaković pointed out the excellent bilateral relations of the states, and thanked them for their strong support for the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially that BiH received the status of a candidate state for EU membership during the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“We have a difficult path ahead of us, but our future is European. Due to historical and cultural ties, perhaps you understand our complexity better than others, but also the richness of our diversity,” said Konaković.

He also announced the opening of the BiH embassy in Bratislava, which will be another step forward in improving political, economic and cultural relations.

Slovak Ambassador Roman Hlobeň emphasized that tonight's celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between BiH and Slovakia marks a significant turning point in the history of the people.

“This is a testimony of the unwavering commitment of Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the creation of a strong partnership based on mutual respect, trust, common values and common goals,” he said.

Ambassador Hlavsova recalled the challenges that the Czech Republic had during the path of European integration, and these experiences are shared in many ways - from political support for BiH's accession to the EU to a large number of development projects, many of which are related to EU integration.

Relations between the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina, she stressed, are based on the good foundation of friendly contacts between the two nations, going back almost 200 years, because there is still a Czech minority in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and some have left indelible traces like Karel Parik and other architects.

“Our common goal is to see Bosnia and Herzegovina become a member of the EU and NATO, and we will continue to support BiH on that path,” said Hlavsova.
