TUZLA, May 15 (FENA) - The 31st anniversary of the defense of the city against the aggressor forces on May 15, 1992, was marked today in the Brčanska Malta settlement in Tuzla. On May 15, legitimate police forces and true patriots of Tuzla defended the city from the planned capture or, as the last resort, its division into eastern and western parts.

The fourth military power of Europe, which on April 27 transformed into the Yugoslav Army of the newly formed Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, broke its teeth at the Brčanska Malta intersection.

"The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and INTERPOL put an end to this case. What are we left with? To talk to the people who suffered here, but without the interference of politics. We demand that those responsible be prosecuted. In the first row, Lieutenant Colonel Mile Dubajić. Let the process be started, and let him prove whether he is guilty or not. In any case, May 15 is defended with the truth and it is the duty of younger generations to tell the truth," said the former mayor of Tuzla, Selim Bešlagić.

The current mayor of Tuzla, Zijad Lugavić, believes that it is important to promote truth, justice and reconciliation in the context of May 15, 1992.

"It is a very important date. What is important to highlight are truth, justice and reconciliation. What is important is truth and justice are very important for proving the past, for proving that no crime happened in Tuzla, that those who defended themselves with honor and dignity were not criminals," Lugavić said.

The commemoration on May 15 was also attended by the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, who emphasized that on May 15, 1992, the freedom of Tuzla and Bosnia and Herzegovina was defended.

"I am here today as a member of the BiH Presidency to express my deep respect for the heroes and defenders of Tuzla and Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will never allow those who defended the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and those who attacked Tuzla and Bosnia and Herzegovina to be equated," said Bećirović.

After May 15, Tuzla was shelled for four years. In the period May 15, 1992 - November 16, 1995, Tuzla was targeted with more than 1,500 missiles of various calibers, among them surface-to-surface missiles of the "Volhov" type. In the shelling of Tuzla, 223 civilians were killed, while 391 civilians were seriously and lightly wounded. No one has ever been held accountable for these crimes.

The "Truth, Reconciliation, Reconciliation" foundation filed a criminal complaint against high-ranking JNA officers Veljko Kadijević, Blagoje Adžić, Milutin Kukanjac, Prašević, Milan Nedeljković, Novica Simić, Mile Dubajić, Momir Zec and Veljko Brajić due to reasonable suspicion that they committed a series of crimes and criminal acts. The criminal charges were never prosecuted.

Tuzla veterans believe that the event of May 15, 1992 will be put to an end when lieutenant colonel Mile Dubajić, commander of the Husinska Buna barracks, is finally prosecuted.

Judicial institutions in Serbia did not take any action, but for years persecuted and prosecuted Ilija Jurišić, who was eventually released and came out as a fighter for truth and justice from Belgrade prison.
