SARAJEVO, May 28 (FENA) - Laying flowers and paying tribute marked the 31st anniversary of the murder of 26 citizens of Sarajevo in Ferhadija Street on May 27, 1992, committed by an aggressor during the siege of Sarajevo. It was the first and one of the three largest massacres of Sarajevo citizens in the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the period from 1992 to 1995.
President of the Alliance of Civilian Victims of War in the Sarajevo Canton Sanida Karović, in a statement to journalists, emphasized the importance of marking such dates, as well as the prosecution of perpetrators of crimes.
"Unfortunately, 31 years after the suffering we survived, without electricity, water and gas where we fought and we knew that behind every corner lurks the danger of snipers and grenades, we live in a time when no one was held accountable for this crime. A message from this place to the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, why don't you prosecute war criminals? Hundreds of civilian victims of the war gave statements and testified. Victims die and do not receive moral satisfaction. It is a wound that hurts a lot," she said.
At the place of suffering, flowers were laid by family members and friends of the murdered, as well as by the BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić, Goran Behmen on behalf of the Presidency member Denis Bećirević, Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees Nerin Dizdar on behalf of the Government of the Federation of BiH and delegations of other government representatives, associations and citizens.
