SARAJEVO, June 23 (FENA) - PRO-Future (Trust, Understanding, Responsibility for the Future), USAID's project to build peace and trust among citizens of all ethnic and religious groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, today marked ten years of peace activities in Sarajevo.
For the tenth year, the project has been implemented by CRS (Catholic Relief Services) with partners: Caritas BiH, the Institute for Youth Development KULT, the Forum of Citizens of Tuzla (FGT) and, the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Banja Luka (hCA) in more than 70 local communities.
Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Deborah Mennuti, said that this is the leading project of the US Government in the field of peace and reconciliation, which has made an immeasurable contribution to the healing of wounds.
"The project took a comprehensive approach to peacebuilding. Through the policy of education, economy, culture and sport, they brought people together and helped them reconcile, face the past and build bonds that are more permanent than the force that once separated them," she said.
She also stated that in ten years the project had direct engagement with more than 100,000 individuals through different types of dialogues, and campaigns, working with all levels of society, from individuals to organizations.
Professor and one of the founders of the Platform for Peace Nerzuk Ćurak pointed out that this is the event of the day in Bosnia and Herzegovina because it marks the tenth anniversary of the great peace project.
He believes that there are few countries in Europe that, as post-conflict communities, have the obligation and the need to work on building trust and reconciliation between people.
The main benefit of the project, he added, is that local communities have proven to be the best friends of PRO-future.
As part of the anniversary, the exhibition "PRO-Future - Retrospective" was opened and the film "10 years of PRO-Future" was screened, and prominent activists received recognition.
The main goal of the PRO-Future project is to achieve sustainable and long-term peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among the more significant achievements of the PRO-Future project are the investment of about 1.5 million KM in more than 20 local communities for the reconstruction of small to medium-scale infrastructure facilities that will contribute to building peace, then the investment of close to a million KM for the implementation of more than 160 small projects throughout BiH and organizing more than 500 cultural, sports, educational and advocacy activities throughout BiH.
