SREBRENICA, July 7 (FENA) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center published today a report entitled 'Srebrenica Genocide Denial in Russian media space'. This report was made in cooperation with the Austrian Service Abroad, and for this document, research was done as far back as 23 years ago to establish the number of denials of the genocide in Srebrenica by Russian politicians, independent researchers, and official bodies of the Russia Federation.

Also, the Report follows the narratives that were used in the context of the genocide in Srebrenica and their development over time.

In addition to the well-known denial of genocide in Srebrenica by this country - Russia's veto of the UN Security Council resolution in 2015, the Report analyzes the statements of individuals and media writing regarding the denial or minimization of the genocide, the accompanying context, the language used and the way of writing about genocide in Srebrenica.

The methodology used to collect and analyze data is the same as that used for the Genocide Denial Report that the Srebrenica Memorial Center publishes annually starting in 2020.

This document specifies in which periods there was a sharp increase in the denial of genocide in Srebrenica by Russian officials and the media, such as the time when the crimes in the Ukrainian city of Bucha were discovered in 2022, for which there are strong indications that they were committed by the Russian army.

The author of this report, Marina Maier, peace officer of Austria abroad and head of the educational department of the Austrian Service Abroad, worked at the Srebrenica Memorial Center from March to July 2023.

By working on this document, she contributed to the research base of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, which has been publishing more and more independent research publications and reports in the last three years.

Such research has simply not been done so far.

It should be emphasized that the importance of denial narratives in mass media and the impact they create on societies should not be underestimated, especially in these times of misinformation.

This Report emphasizes the importance of promoting accurate and unbiased narratives that support the integrity of the historical record.

Edin Ikanović, the editor of the Report, is significantly involved in the preparation of the Report on Denying the Genocide in Srebrenica, the third consecutive edition of which is expected at the end of July this year.

Monica Hanson-Green, editor and proofreader of the English version of the Report, has been working with the Srebrenica Memorial Center on the preparation of the Report on Srebrenica Genocide Denial since 2020 when it was first published.

The Srebrenica Memorial Center, in cooperation with partner organizations and institutions, will continue to monitor the denial and minimization of the genocide in Srebrenica, to free the public space from hate speech and false content, the Srebrenica Memorial Center announced.

The Report "Srebrenica Genocide Denial in Russian Media Space" can be downloaded and read in English via: https://srebrenicamemorial.org/assets/photos/editor/MG_Edit2_Draft_Genocide_Denial_R.pdf.
